Advanced Machine Tools Partners with HGTV’s Designed to Sell

SUWANEE, Georgia, March 5, 2008 – Advanced Machine Tools announced today that it completed a demonstration project that will be featured on an upcoming episode of HGTV’s Designed to Sell national cable television program.

The project was a modern shelving unit featuring dramatic curves and custom-built to fit a specific space in the project home. The shelving unit was designed by Designed to Sell’s John Gidding using CAD software. Gidding, the show’s designer, and Chip Wade, the show’s carpenter, visited Advanced Machine Tools’ Atlanta Technology Center, where all of the parts for the shelving unit were cut on a MultiCam CNC router out of sheets of expanded PVC plastic. With a few simple steps, the CAD design was loaded onto a PC, translated into machine instructions, and exported to the MultiCam router, which cut 18 parts out of 4 sheets of material, all to within one thousandth of an inch accuracy. Only two hours were required to go from a CAD design to a completed shelving unit, which fit together perfectly like a giant puzzle.

“This demonstration showed that a homeowner can achieve a dramatic result on a small budget,” said Mark Balloun, president of Advanced Machine Tools. “The technologies used during this demonstration, including the MultiCam CNC router, are commonly employed by cabinet shops and other subcontractors. Building this shelving unit within the show’s budget would not have been possible without the efficiencies of CAD/CAM software and the MultiCam CNC router.”

Advanced Machine Tools expects that this episode of Designed to Sell will air in June 2008. Images of the shelving unit and budget details will be revealed during the show.
